BREATHE WITH ME — Basel Edition
Art Basel Week · 17–22 June, 2025 · Basel, Switzerland

BREATHE WITH ME — is coming to Basel, Switzerland for Art Basel Week — is an immersive, multisensory installation for wellbeing and community. Designed and conceptualized by the Swiss-born, New York-based experience designer Annabelle Schneider.

Originally commissioned by the Swiss Consulate in New York, the piece has traveled internationally — with iterations in New York, Barcelona, Tashkent, and Gainesville — and now lands at its roots of inspiration in Switzerland in a newly evolved form.

The installation invites visitors into a soft, cocoon-like space for stillness, reflection, and reconnection. Guided by a soundscape composed by Luc Oggier and further activated through intimate live performances, the experience is choreographed through breath, light, scent, and sculptural structures formed by air. What emerges is a tactile, temporal sanctuary — a space like a hug — where one can slow down and simply be.

Set within an unexpected venue — a club — this Basel edition reimagine sensory presence, and emotional resonance.
In place of strobe lights and beats, the space offers soft clubbing: a rhythmic, atmospheric experience where architecture hugs and breathes with its visitors. A radical gesture of reclaiming nightlife as a place for presence and inner attunement, rather than excess.

We are entering the era of soft clubbing — a cultural shift led by a generation turning away from overstimulation and seeking deeper, more intentional ways of coming together. As traditional nightlife loses its appeal, and the need for meaningful, multi-sensory experiences grows, BREATHE WITH ME offers a third space — somewhere between ritual, refuge, and reconnection.

In a time defined by urgency, disconnection, and accelerated visual sensation, BREATHE WITH ME carves out space for being — not doing— and invites us to reimagine how ephemeral design can foster intimacy, sensory awareness, and collective calm.

ARTIST

ANNABELLE SCHNEIDER is a Swiss-born, New York–based artist and experience designer crafting immersive environments that support mental, well-being, emotional connection, and sensory presence. In an increasingly accelerated, filtered, and screen-based world, her installations act as sensory sanctuaries—spaces that breathe, hold, and ground. From interactive soft sculptures to VR therapy environments co-developed with hospitals, her work invites people to slow down, feel deeply, and reconnect with self, others, and time.

Through her studio, she collaborates with forward-thinking brands and institutions to create human-centered experiences that span physical and digital realms. Annabelle also teaches at universities like Parsons School of Design, where her research explores how hybrid spaces can foster resilience, vulnerability, and belonging.
